For patients who do require urgent dental treatment, we generally keep emergency time set aside in our day to accommodate dental emergencies. We will always do our best to deal with your emergency and alleviate any discomfort.
The three main dental emergencies we generally deal with are – toothache with the need for a filling, root canal treatment or an emergency extraction.
You may need a filling if you have a cavity or tooth decay. This is a hole in your tooth that has grown bigger and deeper over time. Cavities will occur if you do not brush and floss your teeth regularly. It is important to have cavities repaired as soon as possible to prevent further damage and save the tooth. Fillings can now be natural looking as well as functional. Nobody wants their silver fillings to show when they laugh or smile so instead, why not consider White Fillings? New materials mean there is a reliable, comfortable alternative to metal-based fillings; the life expectancy of White Fillings is now comparable with Silver Amalgam.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment (or Endodontics) is designed to save an infected tooth. Its purpose is to conserve a tooth that has been damaged by decay, fracture or an abscess. It is often the last resort when other restorative procedures are no longer possible. Some indications Root Canal treatment may be required include:
- Tooth sensitivity to sweets or hot or cold liquids
- Impulsive, throbbing or severe tooth pain
- Tissue swelling of the face
At Broxbourne Dental Care we will only extract a tooth if it is the absolute last resort. Root Canal Treatment can be a highly successful alternative to extraction and even if you have significant decay, there are numerous restorative treatments available.
